Polycrystalline silicon is a material consisting of multiple small silicon crystals. The manufacture method is to solidify the melting silicon (to get the polycrystalline silicon ingots, the melting silicon will be casted via slowly cooling from bottom to top in the squared crucible, then the ingots to be cut in bricks, then be sliced into wafers).




Multi-crystalline silicon wafers play a leading role in the solar PV wafer market, owing to lower cost and higher volume manufacturing, multi-wafers win the superior position to mono- wafers. However, in response to the market demand and driving, how to achieve highest conversion efficiency per square inch is the biggest challenge of the solar technology development. To avoid the higher cost disadvantage of mono-wafers, the development of mono-like wafer technology becomes one of the most important research topics. Mono-like wafers can be produced with the original tools and processes, and provide superior conversion efficiency potentially.
